On February the 15th I went about trying to download another 7 day trial over Premiere Pro to avoid the annual subscription. Unfortunately I wasn't able to with another email from the original, so we decided to switch over to Charles laptop. We then edited for approximately 3 hours that evening, and further 4-5 hours the next day.
So what did we achieve? When we initially looked back through our project, we were slightly uneasy and uptight with the progression, clips used and the length of the song; with little room for manoeuvre we persevered with the song and started our music video edit again. We filed all of the clips we had, grouping them together via locations and as a result we were able to work our way through significantly quicker to the point we we previously at. We maintained focus on stretching out the introduction to use up more of the song, avoiding layering clips and taking out any non-diegetic sound aside from one clip where the protagonist is located at the event.
Has there been any progression or are we back where we started? We caught up and went further beyond filling out 3 minutes 18 seconds of the 4 minute 28 second song, using only good quality images all shot in 1080p which we chose over 4k. Along with this, we have worked hard on creating the 'zoom transition' from scratch instead of downloading a plugin having found various options available. By doing it ourself we could have more control over its effect and can fiddle around with it if we need to, for example speed of zoom and the level of blur. The blog to describe how we did this is here: Zoom Transition.
What still needs to be done with regards to the music video? On February 17th, 18th and 19th we are going to get some more footage of the Cow and Calf Rocks to achieve a cinematic ending to our production, trying to follow the same style we have used. We also would like to get some shots of the protagonist arriving home to end the video at the same location we began with at; this ideally will create a sense of closure for the audience who may be confused if we end the vieo with little if any insight as to what happened next.
Overall the 2 days were very productive. We plan to edit next on Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st to hopefully finish the edit completely.
