ODESZA - It's Only (Unofficial Music Video)

This is my final cut of my music video. Over the course of the last 7 months approximately I have worked alongside Charles who's work can be found at http://f9visuals.blogspot.com/. We have overcome many obstacles in reaching the end product including a lack of shots, our own doubts on the narrative and its strength with regards to linking visuals to the lyrics, editing malfunctions and being weather reliant caused an obstruction to film development.

The overall product screens a narrative which portrays a fall out between two people who are presumed to be in a relationship. It has the protagonist who appears to be un-contactable in the eyes of the antagonist who is stressed and worried over what could have possibly have happened due to him not replying. This is made apparent through the diegetic music following the close up of the texts. The argument gets 'out of control' and he runs away from his issues. The main block of the video then follows the protagonist using montages of cinematic shots along made possible through the use of a drone. Prior to the beginning of this project I wanted to focus on the cinematic aspect having been heavily inspired by Justin Bieber's - 'I'll Show You' music video which was set in Iceland, this can be seen here https://youtu.be/PfGaX8G0f2E.

However, with regards to analysis, Charles and I wanted to be able to link the visuals to the lyrics. As a result of this we carried out lyric analysis which can be seen on this linked blog post - http://shot-type  productions.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/its-only-feat-zyra-lyric-analysis.html. From this marked point we formulated our first idea which we pitched to the class. This idea however only took us so far... 40% through the song to be exact. We were then struck with a problem as we didn't want to rush and just fill the song with unnecessary shots in order to see it out. Bit by bit we added new elements and new scenes, shooting 4 more times on top of our expected number of shoots to gather crucial shots. Personally I believe that the overall product is good and I am very happy with the product we have constructed.

Since rough cut 4, which can be seen here - https://youtu.be/x_PKCs9ZlI0, we have made some small altercations to the letterbox margins along with the colour correction whereby we just made some clips colder and some warmer to help balance out the RGB.

After posting rough cut 4, we applied for audience feedback which can be seen here:

We decided not to follow through with the feedback we got on 'audience feedback pt2' about making the beginning more engaging. The reason for this was based on time. For the time spent on this it wouldn't get us a significant amount of marks to justify it and therefore we made the small changes our teacher recommended, 'colour and letterbox' and exported our final cut.

From here I wish to gather more feedback about how the video has been received, then to gather feedback on our digipak and magazine cover, and how these work together.
